Swami Vivekanand

Let's read about the childhood days of a fearless and brave Swami Vivekanand who was also known as Narendra.

During his childhood days there used to be a Champak tree in his friend's house on which both friends used to climb and play pranks.Their favourite pass time was to hang upside down from the tree.

One day, when they were playing on the branches of the Champaka tree, his friend's grandfather saw them. Fearing that the children will fall off the tree grandfather came near & cautioned "Children, don't climb the tree." Narendra inquisitively asked "Why?”

Grandfather passes by them while replying "There is a ghost who wanders around the tree at night. He twists the neck of anyone who climbs that tree." Little Narendra nodded his head while saying 'Yes'. And as soon as the grandfather left, he climbed the tree again.

After hearing what grandfather had to say his friend got scared and said "Narendra! Please hurry and get down there's a ghost!" But Narendra burst out laughing and replied " Why are you afraid? If truly there was a ghost then my neck would have been twisted by now."

From this story we learn about the boldness of Swami Vivekanand and his ability to utilise his common sense.
